ECONOMIST IMPACT-Papathanasis: The State focused on infrastructure and all social programs

Infrastructure and social programmes are the backbone of the state's concern for the daily lives of citizens and the improvement of their quality of life, Alternate Minister of National Economy and Finance, Nikos Papathanassis, said on Wednesday at the Economist conference "Greece Transportation and Infrastructure Summit - Priorities for connectivity in Europe."
Papathanassis spoke about the new Stability Pact with the restrictive spending limit, but also about the climate crisis with asymmetric events and natural disasters. For the latter, he said that the budget was doubled from 300 million euros to 600 million euros and specifically for 2024 it amounted to 750 million euros. He also referred to the recent signing of amounts of 1.3 billion euros for railway and road projects in Thessaly due to storm "Daniel." By redirecting resources from the Recovery Fund, the NSRF 2021-2027 and national resources.
According to the deputy minister, 16%-17% of the Recovery Fund resources are going to important projects, such as the E65, the VOAK, buses and road interventions. He stated that more than 9 billion euros are allocated from national resources (1.1 billion euros PPP projects), 4 billion euros from sectoral programmes for infrastructure and transport projects and 4 billion euros from regional programmes.
From the same panel, the head of the European Investment Bank in Greece, Marianna Nathanail, said that the EIB hasalways been the bank for infrastructure projects. From the first project in 1963, the Athens-Corinth national road, to road construction projects, airports, the Rio-Antirio bridge and the metro in Athens and Thessaloniki with their extensions. At the same time, there is also the issue of energy autonomy, with the interconnections of the mainland with Crete and the Cyclades and now with Rhodes and the North Aegean.
According to Nathanail, technical assistance is provided to EYDAP for water resources and will be examined if necessary for railway infrastructure, while there will also be a focus on social infrastructure, housing, hospitals and education. And, finally, projects of the Recovery Fund are co-financed.
