Tzitzikostas in Madrid during blackout; highlights EU transport resilience

Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas paid an official visit to Spain, where he had a working meeting with the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility Oscar Puente. Tzitzikostas and Puente visited Madrid's ‘Adolfo Suarez Madrid Barajas’ airport, one of the three largest airports in the EU.
During Tzitzikostas' visit to Madrid, the blackout occurred. According to a statement, when asked about it, he said that “ the European Commission has been in contact from the very first moment with the national authorities of Spain and Portugal, as well as with electricity providers and operators, in order to restore the problems caused, to determine the causes of the blackout and to assess the impact of the situation as it has developed.”
“ My priority is to examine the response of the transport and mobility system across the EU infrastructure to such an emergency situation,” Tzitzikostas said.
