European Commission: Greece is the third country to request activation of the escape clause for defence spending

BRUSSELS (ANA/MPA/ E. Apostolidou) --- EU spokesperson Balazs Ujvari confirmed that Greece is the third European country that submitted a request for the activation of the escape clause for defence spending. He said that EU will examine this request during May and then the conclusions will be presented at the beginning of June.
Greece is one of the three countries, after Germany and Latvia, that have submitted a request to activate the escape clause for defence spending, as included in the European Commission's ReARM plan.
As the European Commission spokesman said, the requests of the countries, including Greece, will be examined in accordance with the provisions and responses will be given in June. At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility that the number of countries that will submit a request will increase in the coming hours, as the deadline set by the European Commission is the last day of April.
