Extension of the validity of measures to contain prices on food and essential goods

The legislative provision for the extension of the validity of measures to contain prices of food and essential goods will be immediately submitted to Parliament.
Specifically, an announcement from the Ministry of Development stated:​As the market situation has significantly improved in recent months-with inflation on food and essential goods at very low levels, the lowest among Eurozone countries, and fuel prices having dropped considerably since last year-the measures concerning the profit cap under Law 5045/2023, which were set to expire on April 30, are extended for two months and will conclude on June 30.
The measures concerning the prohibition of offers for three months following a price increase, the mandatory announcement of price list increases by supermarkets, as well as the announcement of fruit and vegetable prices as well as the 'Household Basket' initiative, are extended until 31 October. The relevant legislative provision will be immediately submitted to parliament.
