Theodorikakos: 'The government works methodically, has a plan'

“ What distinguishes the government is that it works methodically, has a plan that is implemented with actions, we have achieved fiscal stability and significant growth and we must give dividends to people who are struggling,” stressed Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos on Thursday, speaking to ANT1.
“ And that’s what we did,” he added, referring to the series of benefits announced by the government. “ A few weeks ago, I told you that the most important problem for people living in rented accommodation is the cost of housing,” he said, and underlined that “ the government’s measures are extremely targeted, they concern people who rent, low-income pensioners and the increase in the public investment programme.”
The development minister pointed out that the measures were announced now because the surplus achieved in 2024, despite reductions in more than 70 taxes, through growth and the fight against tax evasion was announced now.
“ We support the middle class, we reduce taxes, we have reduced unemployment, we have created new jobs,” he continued and said that there will soon be announcements on the return of the money given to investment projects that were not completed. “ The law will be implemented without exceptions,” he clarified.
Regarding Easter prices, Theodorikakos called on the leaders of the opposition to display greater responsibility. “ The citizens travelled with fuel costs that were reduced by over 10% and in the last three days of Holy Week, the prices of lamb and goat meat were lower than last year,” he pointed out.
Asked about the pressures that tenants may face, he stressed that the law protects tenants who have a contract and cannot be evicted. On the contrary, there will be an incentive to declare the real cost of rent, increasing the return for tenants, but also increasing public revenues from the increase in tax revenues.
“ We are pushing ourselves to do what is best for society: fewer taxes, lower social security contributions, more jobs, increased incomes, this is our philosophy,” stressed Theodorikakos and referred to the new development law that will be voted on in the coming weeks in Parliament. “ The goal is to support border regions, for both demographic and national reasons, as well as manufacturing and small and medium-sized enterprises,” he noted.
“ There is no other way to address the problems and the cost of living than through dynamic and balanced growth,” concluded the minister.
