Children adopted by foreigners up to 1976 may apply for inclusion in Greek town registries, ministers say

Hundreds of individuals who were born in Greece and adopted by foreign nationals will be able to apply for and be included in local town registries, according to a decision by Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios and Deputy Minister Vassilis Spanakis.

Specifically, the ministerial decision lists the documents necessary for the registration, correction, or change at town registries in Greece of children who were adopted by non-Greek nationals by 1976.

According to a statement by Spanakis, the ministerial decision resolves a outstanding and long-term issue of hundreds of children who were born in Greek maternity hospitals in the 1950s and 1960s and were then adopted by foreign parents.
