PM Mitsotakis meets President El Sisi ahead of trilateral summit in Cairo

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi ahead of the Greece-Egypt-Cyprus trilateral summit.
During the meeting, they discussed the excellent relations between Greece and Egypt and their role for peace and stability in the wider region. Mitsotakis underlined that the importance of the talks is of particular significance, especially at a time of regional challenges and turmoil.
Mitsotakis and El Sisi also referred to the convening of the High Cooperation Council between Greece and Egypt, the establishment of which was decided by a joint statement last March in Cairo, in order to upgrade and deepen the strategic relationship between the two countries.
Cooperation between the two countries on migration was also on the agenda of their talks. The key role of Egypt was stressed in order to limit illegal trafficking routes and curb the flows arriving in Crete through Libya. Cooperation to ensure legal migration routes and the possibilities of expanding the bilateral agreement on seasonal workers were also discussed.
The two leaders also exchanged views on international and regional developments, with a focus on Syria.
