Severe weather hits Rhodes and Lemnos; two fatalities reported

Two individuals lost their lives on Saturday as intense weather conditions continue to impact the island of Lemnos.
Authorities issued a 112 emergency alert on Saturday night, urging residents of Kontias in Lemnos to evacuate to the town of Myrina due to the overflow of a local dam.
A 70-year-old man in Kontias, Lemnos, lost his life after a fatal head injury caused by a fall while cleaning the stairs of his home, which had become slippery.
The man was transported to the Myrina Hospital, where his death was confirmed. The island continues to face the severe impact of the ongoing weather event.
Earlier a 57-year-old farmer was found dead by firefighters in the area of Kontias, Lemnos, after his family reported him missing following Saturday morning's severe weather on the island.
The man had gone missing near the Kontias dam, which was flooded. According to police sources, he drowned after being swept away by rushing waters while trying to free his car, which had become stuck in the mud within a stream.
A 112 alert had been issued for Lemnos on Saturday morning, warning of dangerous weather conditions and advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
Severe weather hits Rhodes
In Rhodes, heavy rainfall caused significant disruptions, particularly in the villages of Pastida, Kremasti, Ialyssos, and Maritsa. Flooded roads have immobilized over 20 vehicles, prompting civil protection authorities to advise against any travel until weather conditions improve.
