Some 379,000 households, businesses to benefit from 'Gigabit Voucher' program

The "Gigabit Voucher" program will allow 379,000 households and small to medium-sized businesses to acquire ultra-high-speed connections, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a Tik Tok video posting on Saturday.

"This is not an advertisement, it is an announcement," he said in the video, "and a pleasant one at that." As he explained, "All beneficiaries will receive a coupon with a 200-euro value, regardless of income criteria, to cover a large part of the cost of acquiring the Gigabit service of at least 250 Mbps. Both for the initial connection and for the monthly subscription of the first 24 months."

The prime minister noted that the infrastructure for a digital future is being set as well with the "Smart Readiness Vouchers" that allow the installation of fiber optic lines in 120,000 buildings. In addition, citizens and businesses are being provided with incentives to acquire access to high broadband speeds, "improving in this way Greece's position in the international rankings as well," Mitsotakis added.

The video starts of with a parody of telemarketing, while a voice in the background says, "Are you fed up trying to download photos of Peanut and having the Internet stall?," referring to Maximos Mansion's pet dog.
