Papathanassis: One billion euros in grants disbursed to Greece from Recovery and Resilience Facility

Following the European Commission's disbursement to Greece of 1.0 billion euros in grants from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) on Wednesday, the total amount disbursed to Greece amounts to 18.2 billion euros, more than 50% of the total budget of the National Plan "Greece 2.0". This places the country 5th for absorption of RRF funds among the 27 member states, according to a national economy and finance ministry announcement.
The disbursement followed the European Commission's approval of Greece's 4th payment request for RRF grants, submitted in early June. The request concerned the achievement of 20 milestones and targets, which included, among others, the contracting of projects such as the electrical interconnection of the Cyclades islands, the renovation of the OAKA Olympic Stadium, the Anti-nero I and II forest protection programmes, the improvement of road safety in municipal and regional road networks, upgrading the security of 13 regional airports, as well as reforms such as the codification of the Income Tax Code and the Tax Procedure Code and upgrading the justice system.
Deputy  National Economy and Finance Minister responsible for the RRF, Nikos Papathanasis said: "The latest disbursement from the RRF, following a positive assessment by the European Commission of the relevant Greek request, is the culmination of the prudent, decisive and effective effort of the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and all stakeholders in the implementation of the National Plan "Greece 2.0". Having now disbursed more than 50% of the total budget allocated to us and having raised Greece even higher in the European ranking of disbursements and absorption of European funds, we are continuing the reforms that the country needs in order to achieve the goal of a double convergence, both in terms of wages with the rest of Europe and in terms of balanced development between our regions."
