Main fronts of the Eastern Attica fire in Grammatiko, Penteli and Anatoli in Nea Makri

The wildfire that broke out in Varnavas on Sunday afternoon continued to rage in Eastern Attica on Monday morning, fanned and spread to a front extending more than 20 kilometres by incessantly strong winds of 7-8 Beaufort.
According to an update from the fire department on Monday morning, the fire-fighting effort is extremely difficult as the wind keeps changing direction, while the three main fronts of concern are in Grammatiko, Penteli and the Anatoli settlement in Nea Makri. The forces deployed against the flames have been increased to 560 fire fighters, with 16 teams of forest commandos and 177 vehicles, while 32 aircraft (17 airplanes and 15 helicopters) are operating from the air.
Evacuation orders were issued since the early hours of Monday morning for the areas of Nea and Palia Penteli, Drafi, Dioni, Damarasi, Daou Penteli, Agios Spyridonas and Anatoli in Nea Makri. Authorities have also evacuated two hospitals in Penteli and the monasteries of Agios Ephraim and of Penteli. The police have assisted in the evacuation of dozens of people at risk from the fires.
One fire-fighter was injured while fighting the fire in Marathon, suffering 2nd degree burns to his hands and legs, and was taken first to the Nea Makri health centre and then to the 251 Air Force General Hospital.

A 112 emergency number message was sent to the Daou Penteli and Kallitechnoupolis districts on Monday morning, instructing them to evacuate via Marathon Avenue toward Rafina. Civil protection services sources said that nine helicopters were operating in the Dioni and Kallitechnoupoli areas to put out fires, while seven airplanes were operating in Grammatiko, with the same number preparing to begin operating in the same areas.

A 112 warning to evacuate the Soufani area in Marathon was sent by authorities around noon on Monday, instructing residents to depart in the direction of Nea Makri. 
This was quickly followed by a second 112 message before 12:30 for the evacuation of the Erythros neighbourhood in Nea Makri due to a forest fire in the area, instructing people to head toward Rafina via Marathon Avenue.

A message from the 112 emergency number was sent at 13:10 on Monday, instructing people in Nea Penteli to evacuate toward Halandri due to a forest fire in their area.

A 112 warning to evacuate the areas of Nea and Palea Penteli, Patima Halandriou and Patima Vrilission was sent a few while after 14:00 by authorities instructing residents to depart in the direction of Halandri and Vrilissia.
