Reinforcements sent to battle fire in Stamata; evacuation messages to Rodopoli, Galini, Amygdaleza

The major fire that started late on Sunday afternoon in Stamata, Attica was still burning fiercely on Sunday evening.
According to the fire department, the main front was located between Stamata and Rodopoli. A force of 145 firefighters, with seven units on foot and 41 vehicles was battling the flames with the assistance of volunteers, local authority water tankers and air support from 12 airplanes and 10 helicopters, of which two were used for coordination.
Messages were sent to residents of Amygdaleza, Stamata, Rodopoli and Galini to evacuate and head to safe areas.
The dangerous forest fire that started in Stamata shortly at around 16:00 on Sunday, threatening houses in the area.
A 112 message was sent instructing people in Amygdaleza to evacuate toward Stamata Square via Stamata Avenue, followed by a second message instructing people in the Galini area to head down Stamata Avenue toward Drosia. A third message to those in the Rodopoli area also instructed people to make their way toward Drosia via Stamata Avenue.
Residents in the Dionysos area, meanwhile, were sent a 112 messag instructing them to stay indoors and shut doors and windows due smoke from the Stamata fire heading in their direction.
According to the police, a 45-year-old man in Rodopoli has died of a heart-attack. He had been found unconscious in the yard of a house in Rodopoli shortly before 18:00 on Sunday. He was transferred to a safe location and taken to hospital, where he died.
A coordination meeting was convened at the climate crisis and civil protection ministry, while the police have proceeded to divert traffic at the following locations:
