Mitsotakis: The citizens demand a lot from us, they want fewer mistakes and more effort

"The citizens demand a lot from us, they want fewer mistakes and more effort, tangible results and not just promises," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Wednesday, starting a meeting of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group.

The prime minister emphasised that the meeting coincided with the completion of one year since the victory of the New Democracy party in the elections of June 2023. "We received a resounding mandate from the citizens to implement our plan. This order is valid in its entirety, even after the European elections. The result does not reflect the goal we had set, but it reflects the clear supremacy of the party," he said.

He added that "we must be honest and interpret the stance of the voters, especially those who abstained as a result of our own weaknesses," noting that those who abstained "deliberately chose not to trust another political force."

Messages to Skopje and Tirana

Referring to the Prespa Agreement, he said that those who praise the agreement should see in the current behavior of Skopje their own problematic experiments.

"These are the pitfalls that we had warned about, as we are now warning the Skopjans: you did not start off well, violating your obligations. Stop reckoning without your host. This also applies to Albania since the decision on Beleri brings Albania into confrontation with the European Parliament," Mitsotakis noted. He emphasised that Fredi Beleri must be allowed to assume his duties as an elected MEP and not be hindered.

"Tirana knows that anything else will make Albania's European path more difficult," he explained.

Referring to everyday life and the government's work, Mitsotakis stressed the need to improve the daily life of citizens.

He refuted accusations of serving specific interests and said that "with our actions we serve the interests of our most vulnerable fellow citizens."

"We have three years ahead of us, enough political time. It allows us to correct mistakes and advance the government's work. Citizens demand immediate results. We have made significant progress compared to what was happening last year," he said.
