Kasselakis criticizes government's economic policy at island chambers assembly

Criticism of the government's economic policy, with references to the problems of the Greek islands, was voiced by the leader of the SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance Stefanos Kasselakis, during his speech at the general assembly of the island chambers of commerce. Kasselakis emphasized that "if we don't prioritize a welfare state first, followed by a state of law and open regulated markets, we're not going anywhere."

He referred to primary surpluses, stating, "Currently, the Greek government has agreed to an austerity program in Europe, which forecasts 2.5% primary surpluses per year until 2026. And what have they even negotiated for? To come in 2027 and do what? Another food pass and market pass?"

Kasselakis addressed the functioning of the banking system, stressing that the overwhelming majority of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, nine out of ten, currently lack access to bank liquidity, despite the fact that we have recapitalized the banks three times.

He also mentioned the accuracy and the specific problem faced by the islands, stating that it is unjust in Greece, which has the lowest purchasing power along with Bulgaria and the highest indirect taxes along with Sweden, for banks to have excessive profits, for the state-controlled electricity sector to have excessive profits, and for Greek citizens to experience the highest or second-highest inflation in food.
