Skrekas: Price reductions of up to 20 pct for many products

The prices of many products have dropped by as much as 15-20 percent, Development Minister Kostas Skrekas said in an interview with Real FM on Monday, in a first assessment of the impact of the measures to counteract inflation launched on March 1.
"We are monitoring product prices on the shelf via the Interagency for Market Control (DIMEA)," Skrekas said, noting that the ministry has received price lists from supermarket chains, where there are reductions in nearly 4,000 product codes. "Prices have dropped for 3,912 of some available 24,000 codes in a supermarket," he said.
"If you conduct a survey of the market, you will find that price increases have been averted. The provisions we passed have prevented thousands of price increases. We have an 80 percent reduction in price hikes," Skrekas underlined.
"We are not celebrating, as the effort can't bring results overnight. We are proceeding with structural measures, which are, however, also acknowledged by other political parties. The battle is not over, we will continue our efforts," Skrekas added.
