Olympiacos FC chief to provide written proof to Supreme Court on 'Greek football mafia' allegations

Olympiacos FC president Evangelos Marinakis will submit documentation to the Supreme Court supporting his club's allegations that "Greek football is managed by a criminal ring," the businessman's lawyer said on Tuesday.

Chief Supreme Court prosecutor Georgia Adeilini had summoned Marinakis a day earlier for explanations about a statement following a Stoiximan Super League game on Sunday between Olympiacos and Volos FC in which the Piraeus-based club also charged judicial authorities and ministries of "indifference in cleaning up the football sector".

Marinakis did not show up at the prosecution's office but his lawyer Vassilis Dimakopoulos explained he would provide proof of the allegations.
The Olympiacos statement released on Sunday, following the game's 2-2 score, said in part, "Greek football is managed by a criminal ring: a group of people who operate like a mafia and whose sole purpose is to destroy Olympiacos. Today the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) and the Central Referee Committee (KED) sent Papapetrou and Gortsilas, on orders of the gang, to judge most of the Super League games.

Standing by them were the inexistent Ministries of Sports and Citizen Protection, which endangered human lives."

It added that judicial authorities and the state showed "absolutely no interest" in cleaning up the football sector, and additionally charged judicial authorities and the ministries with "wiretapping half of the officials' cellphones".
