Tsipras to PES meeting: Battle to restore justice to Greece

Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras, addressing the Party of European Socialists (PES) meeting in Brussels on Thursday, said that "the next political battle for the progressive forces, with higher chances of a progressive government, will be held in a few months in Greece where the potential for a political change exists," and asked for their support.
According to SYRIZA sources, Tsipras said that this will not only be a battle to restore social justice but to restore justice to Greece generally. "The imminent elections will be of high importance, as there are very significant values at stake in Greece, concerning democracy and European rule of law, as well as tackling corruption and inequalities," he added.
"Unfortunately," he said, "Greece is again in the international spotlight for the wrong reasons. An inconceivable phone tapping scandal by the Mitsotakis government that is being investigated by European institutions... and an unprecedented European scandal, in the Greek former vice president of the European Parliament plays a leading role. An MEP who, despite the fact that she belonged to the Socialists group, cooperated closely with the European People's Party, steadily supported the Greek government and was even opposed to the investigation of the wire tapping scandal by the relevant Europarliament committee, of which she was a member, while she was strongly opposed to all thoughts of cooperation between the progressive parties in Greece, lest there be any prospect of a change in government."
