Economou: The government guarantees that every open wound will close at the end of this crisis

"Our government guarantees that at the end of this crisis it will have managed to close every open wound. Environmental, financial, professional or psycological," government spokesperson Yiannis Economou said on Thursday, at his first press briefing after assuming Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and new government spokesperson.

Economou thanked Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his appointment adding that "I represent a government and a prime minister that do not want to exhaust their energy in verbal contradictions with the opposition parties because it is not something productive for the country and does not interest the people in this country."

He characterised the situation with the wildfires this summer in Greece "unprecedented" noting that "we are trying to deal with them with actions and work."

Economou said that Mitsotakis earlier visited the Coordination Centre of the Fire Brigade to be informed on the situation with the wildfires and mainly to express his confidence to the people that are struggling day and night with the flames.

On the pandemic, he pointed out that we are not done with the pandemic and that "the goverment has all the means but seriousness and responsibility is demanded. The truth for the non-vaccinated people is that "either they will get vaccinated or they be infected by the virus" setting also at risk themselves and the persons close to them. It is morally unacceptable," Ikonomou said.
