SYRIZA marks 47th anniversary of the restoration of democracy

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the anniversary of the restoration of democracy "reminds us that the only political compass should always be that of protecting social freedoms and social responsibility," said SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance on Saturday.
On this day, noted the main opposition party, "we honor all those who led to the collapse of a harsh dictatorial regime through their struggles and sacrifices, and who believed that democracy, equality and justice were possible in this country - despite their exile, torture and imprisonment."
"After 47 years, the struggle for deeper and broader freedoms, for the Rule of Law and for human rights must be continuous, without setbacks. Democracy means having the right to work, to free education and to health," emphasized SYRIZA.
A national unity government was formed on July 24 in 1974 under Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis, after the end of the country's seven-year military junta.
