Residents at Kamena Vourla in central Greece on Wednesday blocked the Athens-Lamia national highway to protest the transfer of unaccompanied minors in their region.
Kamena Vourla Mayor Giannis Sikiotis said that neither his municipality nor any other relevant authority was notified of the arrival of the refugees. He also noted that the specific hotel where they were transferred "was shut for 15 years, yet it was returned functional in just a few days."
All local schools also shut down on Wednesday in support of the protest, and announced that they shall remain closed for as long as refugees remain in the area.
A protest rally against the presence of refugees in Kamena Vourla has been announced for midday Thursday.
