Some 400 homeless unaccompanied minors to be flown from Lesvos to Thessaloniki

Some 400 unaccompanied minors will be flown from Lesvos to Thessaloniki, in three separate charter flights, on Wednesday night and on Thursday.
The first two flights out of Lesvos, each carrying 165 and 160 homeless refugee children, will take off late Wednesday, while the third group of 75 will fly out on Thursday morning.
All flights will land at Thessaloniki's 'MAKEDONIA' International Airport, to be then transferred to hotels in northern Greece.
The children are tested for coronavirus before leaving Lesvos, but for precautionary reasons the facilities that will be accommodate them will be quarantined for ten days.
The flights were arranged by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), whose staff will accompany the children; they are funded by the European Commission and coordinated by the Special Secretariat for Unaccompanied Minors of the Ministry of Migration & Asylum.
In a statement, IOM expressed its sorrow over the tragic fire at Moria and explained that it has recruited a team of workers, including interpreters, to support the already existing IOM staff at Lesvos and to support the installation of tents and mobile storage units as an emergency housing measure, in coordination with the Reception and Identification Service.
