Tourism Min Theocharis visits Aghios Nikolaos, Crete

Tourism Μinister Haris Theocharis, who has been in Crete since Wednesday evening, will pay a visit to Aghios Nikolaos and will remain until Friday.

Theocharis in his meeting with the mayor of Aghios Nikolaos, Antonis Zervos, reiterated that these days are very important for Greek tourism.

"Our country, with the success it has had so far in dealing with the pandemic, is at the forefront. This will be our supply, our successful response, to convince the world and come to spend beautiful and safe moments in our country. The pleasant thing, from the first day of opening, is that any small issues that arise are resolved immediately and at the same time we see that there is a willingness on the part of people to travel. I want to believe that this will continue. The main thing, however, is not how many people will come, the important thing is that each of the visitors returns safely to their home and becomes an ambassador of the quality of the tourist product of the country. That is why cooperation between all is the most important factor," he stressed.

The mayor of Aghios Nikolaos said in his statements that this is the first time that the Minister of Tourism visits the town, while he explained that in addition to the criticality of this year, in tourist areas such as Aghios Nikolaos, the main issue remains how it will be shaped and the future for the tourism product. "Obviously, how the tourist season will start is a crucial issue in a municipality whose main economy is tourism. This year, calm moves are needed, because the ground must be prepared for the coming years," added Zervos.

Theocharis will then have a meeting with productive and tourist organisations at the Lassithi Chamber, and afterwards he will have contacts in Heraklion. His visit will end with a visit to Chania and Rethymno.
