POE-OTA to hold nationwide work stoppage

The local government workers' union federation POE-OTA will hold a nationwide work stoppage next Wednesday, June 24, from 7:00 to 12:00, and a protest rally outside the interior ministry, in Klafthmonos Square.
The trade union organisation representing municipal employees is requesting a meeting with Interior Minister Takis Theodorikakos, in order to brief him on the demands of the sector. These include the abolition of the institutional framework that allows the privatisation of municipal services, the recruitment of permanent staff in all local government services, the maintenance of the insurance status and benefits for arduous and unhealthy occupations and the subsidy for hazardous work as well as the abolition of a provision allowing municipalities to lease their mechanical equipment to contractors to provide them with services (eg cleaning, etc.).
"The stance of the minister will determine further decisions of POE-OTA," the federation stressed.
