German ambassador welcomes HELPE-Juwi solar power park in Kozani

The collaboration between solar power specialist Juwi Hellas SA and Hellenic Petroleum (HELPE) to build the largest solar power park in southern Europe is a prime example of German-Greek collaboration opportunities, German Ambassador to Athens Ernst Reichel told Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) on Monday.
Juwi Hellas is a subsidiary of Germany-based Juwi, specializing in solar power parks, and will develop a 204MW park bought by HELPE in Kozani, northern Greece, to be operational by end-2021. The 130-million-euro investment will create 250 jobs in Kozani alone, the ambassador said.
Reichel expressed his certaintly that German businesses will continue to invest in renewable energy sources in the following years, while in a tweet he posted he called the investment "a great victory for coal reduction."
According to HELPE, the park is expected to produce 300GWh, enough to power 75,000 households, and will save 300,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
In earlier statements, Greek Environment and Energy Minister Costis Hatzidakis had announced that a draft legislation to be presented this month will abolish production license for renewable energy sources along with simplification of approving environmental terms.
