Police raid building in Exarchia occupied by migrants and refugees

Police on Monday raided an occupied building in Exarchia, downtown Athens, removing a total 143 foreign nationals, of which 56 were minors, and one Greek man.
The neoclassical building in Oktaviou Merlie and Prassa Street, which was built in 1898 with later wings added in 1929, was used as a school up until 2013 and had been occupied for more than four years, since 2014.
According to police, they found 61 men, 26 women and 56 children from various countries in the building, including Egypt, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iraq, Mali, Pakistan, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Iran and Morocco. Of these, 10 have been detained because they lacked legal documents allowing them to stayt in Greece. The rest will be transferred to the reception facility in Corinth and from there to other refugee and migrant facilities.
The Greek man was taken to the Attica security police headquarters and charged with "disturbing domestic peace".
